ASTRON

Astrophysics Sandbox

Astron is a Advanced 2D space simulator where you can throw planets, stars, and black holes together to see how orbital gravity behaves (or crashes). I built this to let you easily design stable stellar systems, watch gas clouds burn, and mess around with orbits in real-time.

Orbital Presets

If you don't want to build from scratch, you can load pre-configured templates.:

Features

  • Spawn Anything: Place custom rocky planets, massive gas giants, stars, or black holes. Click and drag to set initial velocity vectors.
  • Interactive Gas Clouds: Stellar gas/nebulae erode and change color smoothly as hot stars pass near them, lighting up HII ionization zones.
  • Control the Simulation: Speed up time, freeze physics, toggle collisions, enable visual gravity grids, and customize trail lengths.
  • Space Soundtrack: Includes sequenced ambient tracks.
  • Settings Panel: Fully categorized panels to tweak physics constants, visuals, etc.

Quick Keyboard Controls

  • [Space] - Pause / Resume simulation
  • [F] - Fit all bodies on screen
  • [L] - Lock camera on selected body
  • [S] / [O] - Quick Save / Load active sandbox state

How to Play

Windows: Download win64.zip, unzip it, and run astron.exe.

Linux: Download linux64.zip, extract, run chmod +x astron in terminal, and launch with ./astron.

Official music bundle included.
